Following the disappointment of having to postpone because of rain the exciting Olympic Games held at Manasota Beach Club, we all have been looking forward to the annual Manasota Key’s Joint Book Club’s Luncheon held each year! It’s today and I am not alone feeling the much anticipated excitement of listening to who is by some is one of the best writers of our generation! Michael Mewshaw will be our guest speaker at this year’s luncheon! He is the guest of Michael and Carol Clark, one of our many prominent residents on Manasota Key. Arriving from London last evening, Michael and his lovely wife Linda will be enjoying a few days “on the Key” with their close friends and then on to their home in Key West. Michael Mewshaw has had a long career as a novelist, investigative reporter, and travel writer. On a personal note, the book club in which I am delighted to be a part of just read one of his fascinating memoirs If You Could See Me Now! I think everyone enjoyed it immensely. We certainly had a large attendance at our last gathering for its discussion. Not to be at all in the shadows of Michael Mewshaw we had the good fortune to have another author Mary Gottschalk present, author of Sailing Down The Moonbeam vacationing on Manasota Key this very same time! Mary spoke to us at the Morrison residence about her newly released book. Also enlightening us at the same time about her memoirs and how one goes about separating truths from the way we personally envision things that occur in our lives while “putting it to pen”. It is not everyday or everywhere that you may be in the company of two published author’s just days apart. We are so fortunate to live in a community like Manasota Key that draws such extraordinary and talented people!
