It has been a very busy few weeks on the Island of Beautiful Manasota Key! After the wonderful luncheon held for the Island’s two book clubs at Manasota Beach Club featuring the author Michael Mewshaw the many ladies “of the key” ventured to Boca Grande for the Sarasota orchestra’s annual fashion show. It was held once again at Boca Grande’s historic hotel. With all the ambiance of Old Florida and another era. Lots of ladies from our Key were models and wore the latest fashions from Boca Grande’s boutiques and they were as attractive as ever! Katie Couchot is an integral part of organizing this affair and it gets better every year! I was so bummed as my I-Phone did not take pictures very well or they would be included in this blog.
During this same week Kevin Hunt hosted another Guest-Tennis match at Manasota Beach Club and as the last one held was a huge success!
Moving on to the removal of any Mangroves on our bayside of Manasota Key Please read this article! I think we all know that any vegetation that a buyer or owner wants to remove should be looked at very carefully, and if in doubt have a Sarasota County official come out to determine what can be removed. An article was published on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. The article addresses an owner who purchased a lot in 2006 and began bull dozing and leveling out a lot this past Saturday. It is not clear that the owner was aware of the endangerment to the wetlands or not. It is very important that when purchasing on Manasota Key that you work with a realtor that can inform you properly as to what can be achieved in relation to landscaping your new home/lot or to direct you to the proper authorities.
